NEEDED IN: Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, White River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Timmins and Hearst

Volunteer Transportation Drivers make a significant impact to those in our community that may have no other means of transportation for important appointments and activities.  As a volunteer in this program you will assist our clients in many ways; they will benefit from being able to live independently, alleviating social isolation, and their overall better well being.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Abide by all policies, procedures and practices including but not limited to vehicle circle checks, mileage and route documentation
  • Drive clients to designated destinations
  • Assist clients to and from vehicle
  • Work with Program Coordinator to ensure that the exterior and interior of vehicles are clean and safe
  • Report any concerns of clients with deteriorating health and/or other needs to the Program Coordinator
  • Complete all required training and attend on-going additional training sessions as needed
  • Report to the Transportation Coordinator for all scheduling and availability
  • Priority Assistance to Transition Home (PATH): Transitioning Patients from Hospital to home with the assistance of a Transitional Care Worker 
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong defensive driving skills
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Requires a high level of patience, compassion and empathy in a non-judgemental environment
  • Good working knowledge of the area
  • Ability to be on-call and accept ‘last-minute’ ride requests is always an asset

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years driving experience with a valid G-class Ontario driver’s license with a good driving record
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record check or Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC).

 

Working Conditions

  • Much of the work is performed independently with minimal supervision
  • Will be required to drive a Red Cross vehicle
  • Driving in various weather conditions
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment (which will be provided) and must follow all safety protocols
  • The driver will be responsible to come to the Canadian Red Cross Branch to submit and/or receive necessary paperwork and to complete training.
  • Some on-line training will be required
  • Minimum six-month commitment
  • Days of operation are Monday to Friday.  There is flexibility with time commitment, and we can work to accommodate your availability.  Common shifts are once per week for a minimum of 4 hours.
