NEEDED IN: Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, White River, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Timmins and Hearst
Volunteer Transportation Drivers make a significant impact to those in our community that may have no other means of transportation for important appointments and activities. As a volunteer in this program you will assist our clients in many ways; they will benefit from being able to live independently, alleviating social isolation, and their overall better well being.
Key Responsibilities
- Abide by all policies, procedures and practices including but not limited to vehicle circle checks, mileage and route documentation
- Drive clients to designated destinations
- Assist clients to and from vehicle
- Work with Program Coordinator to ensure that the exterior and interior of vehicles are clean and safe
- Report any concerns of clients with deteriorating health and/or other needs to the Program Coordinator
- Complete all required training and attend on-going additional training sessions as needed
- Report to the Transportation Coordinator for all scheduling and availability
- Priority Assistance to Transition Home (PATH): Transitioning Patients from Hospital to home with the assistance of a Transitional Care Worker
- Perform other duties as required

Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong defensive driving skills
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Requires a high level of patience, compassion and empathy in a non-judgemental environment
- Good working knowledge of the area
- Ability to be on-call and accept ‘last-minute’ ride requests is always an asset
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years driving experience with a valid G-class Ontario driver’s license with a good driving record
- This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record check or Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC).
Working Conditions
- Much of the work is performed independently with minimal supervision
- Will be required to drive a Red Cross vehicle
- Driving in various weather conditions
- Must wear proper personal protection equipment (which will be provided) and must follow all safety protocols
- The driver will be responsible to come to the Canadian Red Cross Branch to submit and/or receive necessary paperwork and to complete training.
- Some on-line training will be required
- Minimum six-month commitment
- Days of operation are Monday to Friday. There is flexibility with time commitment, and we can work to accommodate your availability. Common shifts are once per week for a minimum of 4 hours.
