Volunteers create lasting change in our community
Whether you are looking for a meaningful opportunity for connection, to build up your resume, or put some of your expertise into action, we can find the perfect way to get you involved.
About Keeping Seniors Warm
Growing old comes with its challenges. This is why United Way wants to help vulnerable older adults access the basic needs they deserve to live a healthy and dignified life. Keeping Seniors Warm ensures that our community’s residents AGED 55+ are equipped with the appropriate winter gear to keep them warm during the cold months.
How it works
Eligible participants are invited to a special day of shopping at a participating location where they are paired up with a volunteer and given a credit to purchase a warm coat, boots, socks, mittens, and anything else that might help keep them safe. Participants are also given a goodie bag filled with treats donated by local community businesses and volunteers.
Who is eligible
Keeping Seniors Warm is available for residents over the age of 55 and in a vulnerable living situation (defined as <$35,000 annually by CRA) in the Sudbury, Espanola, Timmins or North Bay regions.
Your Role -
As a volunteer, you will have the rewarding opportunity to engage with seniors participating in our program. Your role will involve accompanying and assisting them in selecting essential winter items such as hats, coats, boots, snow pants, sweaters, blankets, longjohns, socks, and slippers. You will guide them through the store (Giant Tiger - South Porcupine), ensuring they find what they need to stay warm this winter. You will bring them to the designated cash for processing.
United Way staff will be on site to assist.
