Who We Are
The Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed is a non profit organization, created in 2014 during the second stage of the Porcupine River Watershed Remedial Action Plan. The group's main objective is the promotion of a healthy, sustainable aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem in the Porcupine River Watershed through public education and community involvement.
What We Do
Porcupine Lake Community Cleanup: With sponsors, the FPRW hosts this annual event where volunteers spend a morning outside making a positive impact on their community by picking up litter in public spaces and along roads within the Porcupine River Watershed area, from Porcupine to Schumacher.
Education and Nature Appreciation: Promote appreciation and knowledge of the watershed's ecosystems and biodiversity, by offering educational nature walks, and curating the iNaturalist Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed project to encourage learning about the species that rely on the watershed's health.
Advocacy: Advocate for the health of the watershed in communication with stakeholders. Encourage community members and industry to adopt environmentally responsible and sustainable practices.
