Qui nous sommes
We are pleased to support clients and/or their loved ones with assistance as well as resources available in the community. We want to ensure that epilepsy or a brain injury is not the deciding factor in one’s life.
Ce que nous faisons
Community Health Promotions: SABIC supports the community with awareness campaigns, in collaboration with local community partner, throughout the year, such as: Epilepsy Awareness, Brain Injury Awareness, Stroke Awareness, and Concussion Awareness
Intimate Partner Violence Program: Several topics are presented by experts in their respective fields. For example: Healthy Boundaries, Self-Empowerment, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Legal Rights & Advocacy for Survivors, Rehabilitation & Recovery Services, and Understanding Trauma & Brain Injury
Seizure First Aid Education Sessions: SABIC provides the community with accurate information and dispels myths about steps to take when managing a seizure. School Visits/Presentations – We provide Seizure First Aid Education Sessions, videos, and other resources to teach children, their parents, and staff about how to assist someone having a seizure and how to prevent brain injuries. We also perform Kids on the Block Presentations, which is a troupe of life-sized puppets who assist with showing young students what to do in the case of a seizure, as well as how to prevent Acquired Brain Injuries (ABIs).
“New Beginnings” Day Program (virtual and in-person): Consists of social, recreational, and therapeutic services for those with seizures and/or brain injuries in a group setting. It also doubles as support for family and caregivers who provide day-to-day care. Regularly scheduled activities run Monday to Saturday and include: Creative Arts, Bowling, Bingo, Walking Programs, Cooking and Nutrition, Bullet Journaling, Chair Exercises (yoga), Library visits, Brain Beats, Mindfulness, Games, Puzzles, Life Skills, and Virtual Vacation. Seasonal activities, such as mini putt, are also available.
Peer Support Groups: Men’s Social Group, Women’s Social Group, Caregiver Support Group, and a free OBIA Peer-Mentoring Program.
